Distance Learning- Bringing the Outside World into the Elementary Classroom

One of the most widely used applications of technology in the classroom at our Elementary School is the use of video distance learning. Distance learning programs allow teachers to bring outside resources into the classroom normally unavailable due to location and funding.  Our students have connected with programs not only in our state, but from Kansas, Texas, and Pennsylvania just  this year.

Classes enjoy the different delivery of curriculum as well as experiencing interactivity with the presenters.  Seeing hedgehogs, delving deeper into force and motion in football, and conversing with a pioneer create more authentic and relatable experiences, enhancing knowledge in a fun way.  Most programs are flexible in scheduling and cost less than $150, but don’t overlook the free programs from sites such as The Smithsonian!

Stay tuned to learn more about some of the specific distance learning (or DL) programs that we have as the year goes on!
